Shannon Whitworth to give a benefit concert for Transylvania County’s New Animal Shelter
On Sunday, March 11 singer/songwriter Shannon Whitworth will perform at the Porter Center on Brevard College’s campus in a benefit concert that will support the fundraising efforts for the Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS). This community volunteer group is raising money to bridge the gap between the public money committed by Transylvania County and the cost to build the long awaited new animal shelter on Old Rosman Highway off Highway 64.
Shannon, an animal lover and resident of Transylvania County, in conjunction with Mountain Song Productions are graciously working together to bring this event to the Porter Center. Continue reading
Pet Treat Recall
Bella in New York, Chansey, Ginger and Sampson in Ohio, Shelby in Pennsylvania, Sarge in Tennessee, Venus in Washington, Sherma, Tundra, Gracie Mae, Chester and Anna Claire; this is just a handful of victims of the latest deadly danger to pets.
Animal owners are once again at the mercy of pet food companies, as their pets are being poisoned by the very people that they trust to keep them healthy. Once again, claim pet owners, their beloved and innocent family members are dying from eating food items that US companies are importing from China. Continue reading

Proper Pot Toasts New Animal Shelter
More than sixty people gathered at The Proper Pot on West Main Street last Friday night for a fun-filled wine tasting event. Owners, Larry and Beth Canady, hosted the festive evening to benefit the new County Animal Shelter.
Major Jimmy Harris performed his unique style as auctioneer extraordinaire to get the highest bid for the auction items donated by The Proper Pot, Pure Pets, Harris Hardware, wine dealers and by individuals attending the event.
Friends of the Animal Shelter gave a status report and talked of the public excitement centered around the shelter project. The group also announced future fund-raising events including the Shannon Whitworth concert at the Porter Center on March 11th.
The occasion was very successful and again demonstrated the large community support for the new shelter. The Proper Pot joins other Brevard businesses that have teamed up to raise money for the shelter.

Elements Spa Fundraiser, December 8
Elements Spa Fundraising Event is happening this week. Thursday, December 8 starting at 5:30pm We’re having a raffle, mini-massages, Spa dollars, wine, appetizers and more…it’s going to be fun! So mark your calendars for Thursday, December 8.Cat Litter Box & Anti-Social Behavior
Okay, you’ve tried everything else, so why not think “outside” the box. After all, your cat is thinking that way. You tried clumping, non-clumping, clay and crystal litters. You’ve added an extra litter box and cleaned them twice a day. You consulted with an on-line feline behavioral guru who says he can get inside the mind of a cat (who would be brave enough to do that?… even for one minute). You’ve thrown away the covered box and swapped it for a newer, upscale box with more room. And now you are cleaning with just hot water instead of soap and disinfectants that leave a clean and sanitized smell. Never mine that a sanitized litter box smell is repugnant to a cat. Before you throw in the towel or kick the cat outside for the winter, try catnip. Joking, right? No, cats can’t resist the stuff. It has a chemical in it called nepetalactone that delivers a cat into a different zip code. Hopefully, this is the zip code for the cat privy. A small amount of cat nip in the litter, and you and your cat may become friends again. If this doesn’t work… go ahead and kick him out for the winter. Next year when he comes in, he’ll be more polite.
